A Letter To My 14 Year Old Self

Dear Livvy,

You need to start looking after yourself, you are going into hospital every 3 months because you are ignoring your illness. You are blessed with brilliant lungs which in the future you would do anything to have again.
The nurses at the hospital are lovely people but they are not your friends or family. You need to be at home and school to form bonds with people who are in your normal home environment.
Now this is a biggie Livvy, this will save your life. Please get into doing a sport. Any sports. I know you think you do just fine at P.E but there will come a time when you wont be able to run anymore. You wont be able to walk up the stairs in your house. Take up badminton, you’re good at that!

School IS important, stop being so flippant about it. You seem to have the idea that because you have Cystic Fibrosis that you can’t go to university or have a career. YOU CAN. Oh and whatever you do, do not miss careers day when the people from Connexions come in and help you out with future career ideas. You will regret missing that day and feel lost otherwise.
You should definitely take History for GCSE. Yeah, GCSE History is world wars but you love History and it will open up doors for going for a career you love in the future. Social History is what you should gravitate to.

When it gets to A-levels this is where the hard work begins, do not be put off. Focus.
Don’t get involved with that boy, he is a waste of your time and he’s a mummy’s boy. He will not visit you when you are sick as he doesn’t want his mother to find out that you have CF. I promise you, you do not love this boy.
Do not spend every spare hour you have on MSN, do your coursework and don’t make your life about your social life. Friends will fade as they work on their own life and careers, they wont care about you and MSN will cease to exist. Do not be left with nothing.

One thing you are doing right Livvy is being you. The crazy, funny one. This is who you are and never change that for anyone.
Never let anyone tell you who to be or how to act. It is your life and you can do whatever you like with it.
There will be tough times with your health but they would be few and far between if you take up a sport. Exercise is the key to a happy life, trust me.

You can be whatever you want to be Livvy, CF wont stop you unless you let it.

29-year-old Livvy x

p.s. You do get that dog you’ve been waiting so long for!

    Hello ,

I saw your tweet about animals and thought I will check your website. I like it!

I love pets. I have two beautiful thai cats called Tammy(female) and Yommo(male). Yommo is 1 year older than Tommy. He acts like a bigger brother for her. 🙂
I have even created an Instagram account for them ( https://www.instagram.com/tayo_home/ ) and probably soon they will have more followers than me (kinda funny).

I have subscribed to your newsletter. 🙂

Keep up the good work on your blog.
